Where did Omegalul originate?

OMEGALUL is used in Twitch chat to react to something hilarious and it is essentially an evolved version of the “LUL” emote. The original was taken at MLG Anaheim 2013 by photographer Jonathan Tayag, forever immortalizing the moment. It migrated to John Bain with his nickname TotalBiscuit-a famous Twitch streamer, as a sub emote called “Cynicallaugh”. Bain’s face is used in the LUL emote and the Omega version of the same emote shows off the late content creator’s face as if he were in front of a funhouse mirror. It spreads widely amongst Twitter users.

The image was soon taken down after Tayag issued a DMCA, claiming that permission was never granted. Bain and Tayag had debated the picture for three years, then Tayag eventually saying that he was fine with the free usage of the picture without paying any fee. In 2016, Bain uploaded the emote to popular third-party extension BetterTwitch.
